How do you know if you have a bat problem? Sometimes the entry holes are easy to see . Sometimes they can be heard in the attic or walls.
One of the common signs is presence of guano. Bat feces is often mistaken for mouse droppings. The difference can be seen in what happens when you apply pressure to the droppings. Bat droppings disintegrate while mice feces smashes when pressure is applied to it.
Bat droppings will always be found below the structural entry point. This picture was taken on a porch on a home in Wood County. Mouse feces would be found along the edge of a wall or barrier. This was found below a gap in a log structure.

In the foreground of the next picture you can see flecks of bat dung that is clinging to the outside of the rain gutter.

The bats are entering this house where the soffit meets the roof. The guano is piled on top of the gutter guards.
Next time we’ll take a look at mitigation techniques.
